If you have not yet converted your Facebook fan page over to the new Timeline design, your web page will automatically convert on March 30th, 2012 which is coming up fast. This post covers nearly all basic settings and features you need to know. Even if you’ve upgraded, you’ll find some tips here!
One of the largest feature changes that many businesses are annoyed about is removing a default landing tab. That is, where you can create a custom landing page for non-fans using an iFrame app, and add rich press, an opt-in package and/or a compelling reason to join your fan web page. The good news is you can still have custom tabs, plus the like-gating component functions.
You just can’t arranged a default getting tab. However, each of your apps still has its own unique URL. With the new Timeline design, you’ll spot the large cover image near the top of your web page generously. You might find that you care less and less in regards to a default landing tab with this little bit of prime real estate that is always noticeable to fans and non-fans as they land on your page. The dimensions are 851 pixels wide by 315 pixels high.
It’s an excellent spot to showcase photographs and graphics pertaining to your brand/business. Personally, I’m very excited about the cover image! You have to be able to preview your page(s) first, made all the edits you wish, obtain it just the way you want it, then publish. Look for the preview option near the top of your web page in the old design.
Or, visit a set of your webpages and turn on web page preview mode here. Before you publish, at minimum amount come with an attractive cover image loaded just. Your page will automatically convert on March 30. My advise is don’t wait. There is really no strategic benefit to waiting around … okay, maybe if you have an extremely hot custom landing tabs with a like-gating advertising campaign that’s going very well.

Otherwise, go for the upgrade now and lead just how by educating your supporters on all the new features. Dimensions for the large cover image is 851 x 315 pixels. If you upload a graphic that’s smaller than these sizes, it will get stretched to this bigger size. The image you upload must be at least 399 pixels wide.
Facebook encourages you to change your cover image normally as you want. Newsflash: every time you change your cover image, this posts to your wall structure and switches into the news headlines feed of your supporters out. You may find the experience itself doesn’t get great Edgerank (visibility score in the news feed).
