Facebook Timeline For Business Pages

If you have not yet converted your Facebook fan page over to the new Timeline design, your web page will automatically convert on March 30th, 2012 which is coming up fast. This post covers nearly all basic settings and features you need to know. Even if you’ve upgraded, you’ll find some tips here!

One of the largest feature changes that many businesses are annoyed about is removing a default landing tab. That is, where you can create a custom landing page for non-fans using an iFrame app, and add rich press, an opt-in package and/or a compelling reason to join your fan web page. The good news is you can still have custom tabs, plus the like-gating component functions.

You just can’t arranged a default getting tab. However, each of your apps still has its own unique URL. With the new Timeline design, you’ll spot the large cover image near the top of your web page generously. You might find that you care less and less in regards to a default landing tab with this little bit of prime real estate that is always noticeable to fans and non-fans as they land on your page. The dimensions are 851 pixels wide by 315 pixels high.

So, as I gather indirectly, the story offered from a source was trying to make a point definitely, and (again reading only Tim) has precious little primary proof for the famous discussion.

The first lesson: beware these apocryphal stories passed on through secondary, tertiary and eventually gossipy sources. This lesson was brought home to me by Peter Garber’s great “Famous First Bubbles” book (I had developed lots of fun reviewing it). Garber returned to check out actual primary sources behind stories that though apocryphal are approved around as true among economists, like the famous tulip “bubble.” They aren’t true either. Though they make good stories. I acquired a deeper lesson, on just how economies proved helpful in early modern Europe. Early economies were so pervasively regulated, that the only thing to do with an innovation was to run to obtain a Royal monopoly.

How Uber Clones Are Changing Logistics

In this age of rampant ‘Uberisation’ – as we would call the changing face of the taxi business- Uber clones are fast becoming rivals to be reckoned with in the logistics business. The Uber app was the beginning of a small-scale technical revolution, an inspiration to multiple Uber clones availing of the use clone script to build a similar business model, either in the cab service sector or other areas of business. Uberisation – produced from the business name Uber, it’s the phenomena of business organizations utilizing mobile applications to assist in easy communication and transactions between consumers and providers of various services, essentially doing away with the middle-man.

And this development has fast gained popularity. In the cab trip and posting industry, a few significant titles are Left and Grabcar. A report by the Business of Apps, as seen here, demonstrates Left is, in fact, getting a better response that Uber even, although Uber generates a lot more income. In the hospitality business, AirBnB is fast carving a niche for itself, with 60 million users, 640,000 hosts, and 2 million-accommodation listings.

US Business Majors Want Work Life Balance?

Business Majors Have a Case of Ambition Deficit Disorder? Quick: Just how many business majors in the U.S. No. 1 profession concern work-life balance? Try 61 percent. This regarding to a study of 21,000 business majors by Universum, the New York branding outfit. Less important than work-life balance to the millennial era are the types of priorities that propelled prior generations in the career ladder.

Millennials rank job security and stability second, being competitively challenged third, and being a manager or leader of individuals fourth among their professional goals. In this, business majors aren’t much different from those in other academic disciplines, which range from 58 percent with work-life balance as the No. 1 concern for it to 66 percent for the natural sciences. However in Asia, business majors have somewhat more drive. Only 41 percent of Chinese and 37 percent of Japanese undergrads list work-life balance as a top priority. That has some social people worried.

These processes have much more difficulty dealing with “cost avoidance”–which makes cost/benefit analysis hard. There is one way to get both. Simplifying the processes can make the business both leaner and more agile under certain conditions; but, that will require good Enterprise and System Architecture processes, which cost money, which most organizations, currently, do not spend.

Following His Upset Win Over Peterson

Mayor Greg Ballard’s re-election campaign has launched a new ad that attacks his Democratic opponent, Melina Kennedy, for supporting the tax increase four years back that helped sink previous Mayor Bart Peterson’s campaign. The ad promises Kennedy was serving as Peterson’s deputy mayor at that time the taxes increase was proposed. That is untrue. Kennedy remaining Mayor Peterson’s administration in 2004, 3 years before the tax increase was proposed and at the same time Peterson was still publicly declaring his opposition to higher taxes.

Kennedy do, however, support the taxes increase for public safety financing. Four years back, Ballard opposed the taxes increase at exactly the same time he was encouraging to include 750 new police officers. Following his upset win over Peterson, Ballard refused to repeal the taxes increase transferred by the Democratic-controlled council and never hired any additional police officers.

He stated that the budget suggested by Peterson and approved by the Democrat council didn’t appropriate the costs of law enforcement over-time work. In fact, he raised other taxes and fees within the last four years to support spending on the Capital Improvement Board and budget items other than public security. Ballard takes credit for lower property fees that are completely the consequence of action taken by the condition legislature and Gov. Mitch Daniels, which were only permitted by walking the state sales taxes a full percentage point. Given Ballard’s vulnerability with this issue, one has to wonder if it was a smart decision to attack Kennedy for …
