Research demonstrates the presence of a mentor in a young person’s life significantly boosts their prospect of success. On February 27, 2014, President Obama launched the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative to address opportunity gaps encountered by males and young people of color and ensure that all teenagers can reach their full potential.

Through this initiative, the Administration has joined up with cities, cities, businesses, and foundations that have taken steps to connect young people to mentoring, support networks, and skills they have to find a good job or go to university. Today, the Administration released a two-year record outlining milestones and progress on key priority areas, as well as new federal government investments to aid the initiative. Through AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Social Innovation Fund programs, CNCS helps advance MBK by increasing entry-level job opportunities and providing access to mentorship and apprenticeship options for all those teenagers, including males and teenagers of color.

Today’s announcements build on earlier commitments from CNCS that underscore the President’s belief that all teenagers deserve the chance to reach their full potential.
